The Éyameth’ Health Centre has officially opened in Harrison Mills on the shared territories of the Sq'ewlets and Sts’ailes Nations. Meaning “weaving health together,” in the Halq'eméylem language, Éyameth’ brings culturally safe and integrated primary care under one roof, grounded in Indigenous leadership and community. Spaces like this matter. They improve access, restore trust, and show what’s possible when health systems are built with Indigenous ways of knowing at the centre. Creating more centres like Éyameth’ across all provinces and territories is essential to advancing equity and truly person-first care for all communities. These spaces also challenge colonial models of care by valuing culture, land, and community as integral to health. They remind us that health care is not just about treatment, but about belonging. Expanding Indigenous-led health centres is a necessary step toward a more just and responsive health system.
